Tahtakale

This weeks assignment in our VA301 class is to go and explore the different design objects in Tahtakale where is a place you can find every single thing you ever search for with a good price. As you can see from the pictures I've uploaded Tahtakale is a very colourful place with bunch of people who are trying to sell you some stuff even if you've asked for it or not. Simply it is a very warm place, like a representation of Turkey's hospitality.

In every little store you can see a traditional subjects about our culture. Some of them hang flags while some of them simply decorate whole of the area with amulets.

After long hours viewing the designs in this place, I saw this new year hairband ornament which gave me inspiration about my projects possible gift. While new year is coming and this will be my christmas gift I thought may be I could design a stuffed snail which I have in my logo and make a toy out of it. This is just an idea because I am not sure if it will be a really useful gift to send out my customers as a cargo company. However it was fun even to look around and see some different design objects.

The Price of Being Superheroes Infographics

These illustrations that were done by a graphic designer Bol Al-Greene have a great sense of humor. First of all they include superheroes which have great influences mostly every person in the world. Whether in their childhood or their adulthood all people or read comics at least once in their lives. In the sense these designs were be considered and be examined with the subject of consumption it relates these animation to our daily lives. Other than the relation of these designs to our daily lives in the sense of design it is really well organised and the use of colours are used brilliantly.

Simple Artworks

Simplicity is one of the most important factors that has a role in the creation of an artwork. In these pictures that I find very interesting and original, the artist uses great combinations. In order to succeed in these kind of works, in my opinion the main important thing is the way your mind is thinking, the way your mind imagines concepts before making them as one. I put these examples because I believe that it reflects exactly how an artist, a designer, a person who works or interested in creative areas should think and react.

The simplicity is not only reflected with the use of two objects which are commune with each other perfectly. The designer makes a good decision in making the painted objects very simple as well by drawing them by hand with a pencil or a pen. There is not any over design situation with the addition of colours or other any other supplementation. Also the overall placement is harmonising and making the simplicity even stronger.

Pin-up Calendar

London based photographer, Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz, has created a 12 month calendar inspired by retro calendars from the 1940′s pinup girl. Except the girls aren’t wearing clothes, they are wearing milk. Very fast milk. Frozen with high speed strobes, each photograph is layered from hundreds of photographs of splashes on real models using real milk. And each of the images were taken around the world at his various workshops and seminars.

When I first saw this calendar idea it made me smile and made me think about the creative mind behind this idea. To maintain a tradition which comes from the early 40s, this calendar has a great role in combining two different concepts; traditional and contemporary photography. In photographical manner the action photography is used brilliantly in this calendar. The idea of poured milk as a women dress has a great value in reflecting women's pureness and their body shapes. In designing aspect, in all of them women are positioned in the center of the page with a little accessories that reflects women's roles in the society. The composition makes the audience focus directly to the women. Also with the gestures of the women, the photographer created a path for the audience to follow.

As our first assignment in VA 301, we were told that we have to find a project which we like or don’t like and analyse the project according to certain criteria.  For this assignment I was surfing on the Internet and than I found Paul McDonall’s motion graphic called “By Any Means Title Sequence”. The first thing that attracts me in this project is the balance and the symmetry between the black and whitish areas. Without using too many objects he established to create simple designs. With this balance, also the alignment of the typographic visuals has a great harmony among them.

Especially in this particular one, the artist succeeded to make the viewer's eye follow a certain path with adding the red area's end right after the end of the typographic visuals.

As a visual communication design student I am especially interested in these kinds of visuals, which have great amount of contrast by making the images cut by two or more lines and providing the simplicity.

For those who are interested in these kind of motion graphics here is the link of the video below. Enjoy!
